American Toile:Four Centuries of Sensational Scenic Fabrics and Wallpaper is a new book by Michele Palmer (Schiffer Books). From the publisher’s site: “American toile is scenic fabric and wallpaper that bring the story of America to life. It is fifty percent American history, fifty percent fabric history, and one hundred percent fascinating!”
My “Trailer Trash Toile” (seen after the jump) is included in this book. I designed my Trailer Trash Toile collection for Spoonflower’s “my town toile” contest back in February of 2012. It was designed to be a tongue-in-cheek celebration of my PWT heritage (that’s poor white trash, for those of you who grew up in a house that didn’t have wheels.) I created a whole collection of Trailer Trash Toile, and it is now available in different sizes and colorways on fabric and wallpaper from Spoonflower. It is also available on select gift items (like pillows, bags, and kitchen towels and napkins) from Zazzle.com.
I was recently contacted by an art critic who is writing a review of the book for the Kansas City Star, asking if she could illustrate her review with my images rather than the ones the publisher sent. I *hope* she liked it. If someone out there has a copy of the review, please send it to me!
