On my way to work this morning, I was thrilled to come across this sight… after many months of restoration, Auguste Rodin’s Burghers of Calais is being reinstalled on its new outdoor pad at the Rodin Museum. A huge crane lifted the 6,000 pound sculpture off the truck and over the fence to its rightful resting place. The sculpture had been on display indoors for decades due to damage caused by acid rain. Last fall, the sculpture was moved to an offsite facility so that restoration could continue through the winter. [See WHYY’s coverage here.]
