This pattern has been completely re-designed from the original version I made a year ago. I’ve made the butterfly slightly smaller than it was before. Also, instead of dots on both sides of each tie, you now have the choice of wearing the ties with dots or coordinating stripes showing, giving you a total of 14 looks!
Designed for 56″ wide cotton sateen ($27), this pattern also works well on cotton silk (also $27), although at only 40″ wide, the cotton-silk will yield only 5 ties.
Basic sewing instructions are included right on the fabric; there is a detailed step-by-step tutorial here. This is a simple sewing project that even beginners can successfully complete in an afternoon.
You’ll need some hardware to make the bow-ties adjustable. These can be bought at your local sewing notions shop, or online. If you’ve purchased my fabric, I’ll even send you some for a few dollars—just contact me.
